The honest short answer on CBD and anxiety
When folks ask us whether CBD helps with anxiety, we tell them the truth: many people say it helps them feel calmer, and early research is encouraging, but the science is still limited and CBD is not a cure for any anxiety disorder. We see it as one supportive piece of a whole-person approach, never a replacement for care from your doctor. If you take prescribed medication, please do not stop it on your own. Talk with a professional first. With that said, here is what we have learned in our enclave, and how our people use the CBD we make.
Anxiety is something almost everyone meets at some point, and a lot of people ask us whether CBD can help. We are the Sisters of the Valley, and we want to answer that honestly, because anxiety is too tender a subject to oversell. So let us walk through what the research does and does not say, how CBD seems to work in the body, the whole-person habits that matter most, and how our people actually use the CBD we hand-make. All in plain language, with the candor our sisterhood is built on.
What the research says, and what it doesn’t
Here is the honest picture. A growing body of research has looked at CBD and anxiety, and the early signals are encouraging. A review in the journal Neurotherapeutics found that preclinical work and human experimental studies point toward a calming, anxiety-reducing effect, and that researchers are interested in CBD across several kinds of anxiety, from generalized anxiety to social anxiety to the anxiety tied to post-traumatic stress. That is genuinely hopeful.
But we will not dress it up as more than it is. That same body of research is candid that most human studies so far have looked at single, acute doses rather than long-term daily use, and that larger clinical trials in people living with these conditions are still needed. For a balanced, plain-language overview of cannabinoids, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health is a good place to read more. So when our people tell us CBD takes the edge off, we believe them, and we are grateful, but we will never tell you it treats or cures an anxiety disorder. It does not, and anyone who promises that is not being straight with you.

First, a word about what anxiety is
It helps to name what we are talking about, because the word anxiety covers a lot of ground. A little worry now and then is a normal part of being human; most of us feel it before a hard conversation, a deadline, or a doctor’s visit, and it passes. An anxiety disorder is different. It tends to be more persistent and more intense, lingering for weeks or months and getting in the way of ordinary life, like work, school, sleep, and relationships. That distinction matters, because the gentle, supportive role we see CBD playing for everyday tension is not the same thing as treating a diagnosed condition. If your worry is constant, outsized, or keeping you from living your life, that is worth bringing to a professional, and it is a sign of strength to do so, not weakness.
We say this with care because we hear from a lot of people who have carried heavy seasons quietly for a long time. You do not have to white-knuckle it alone, and a plant ally, however lovingly made, is no replacement for real support when things are hard. With that said, for the everyday, garden-variety stress that so many of us are living with right now, here is how we think about CBD as one gentle helper among several.
A whole-person approach matters most
Our sisterhood is holistic by nature, which means we look at the whole picture, not just the bottle. A lot of anxiety has a source, and the most caring thing anyone can do is tend to that source where they can. Sometimes that is a hard season of life, a loss, money worries, isolation, or a stretch of bad sleep. CBD cannot reach in and fix the circumstances of a life. What our people tell us is that, used alongside other gentle daily habits, it can help take the sharp edge off so they have a little more room to do the harder work.
The best results we have seen do not lean on CBD alone. We think of it as one point on a five-pointed star, with the other four just as important.
| The five points | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Movement | Gentle daily exercise is one of the most reliable ways to settle a busy nervous system |
| A whole-food, plant-leaning diet | What we eat shapes how we feel; steady, nourishing food steadies the mood |
| Herbal support suited to you | This is where CBD lives, as one supportive plant ally among many |
| Good sleep | Rest and worry feed each other; protecting sleep eases the next day |
| Quiet time and daily meditation | A few minutes of stillness teaches the body it is allowed to rest |
These five lift each other up. CBD sits in the herbal-support point, helping the others along rather than carrying the whole weight by itself.
Not Sure Where to Start?

How CBD seems to work in the body
The body is full of receptors, little protein structures on our cells that receive signals. CBD is thought to interact with cannabinoid receptors found across the central and peripheral nervous systems, and researchers believe it may also gently influence serotonin signaling. Serotonin is a messenger chemical tied closely to mood, and low serotonin is often part of the picture in anxiety and low mood. The exact mechanism is still being studied, and we would not pretend otherwise, but the leading idea is that CBD helps the body’s own balancing systems do their work, rather than forcing anything.
Here is the line we will not cross, because it matters too much. The conventional, well-studied treatments for anxiety and depression include therapy and prescription medicines such as SSRIs, prescribed and monitored by a doctor. CBD is not a substitute for those, and we would never tell anyone to swap their prescription for a bottle of ours. If you are managing anxiety with professional care, keep that care, and treat CBD only as a possible gentle companion you have talked through with your doctor.
One more honest thing about how it works in practice: people respond differently, and that is normal. Body weight, individual chemistry, the form you choose, and even what else is going on in your life all shape how CBD feels for you. Some folks notice a quiet settling within a week or two of steady use; others feel little and decide it is not for them, which is a perfectly fine answer. This is why we keep saying start low, go slow, and give it a fair, consistent try before you judge it, the same patient way you would approach any new part of a wellness routine. Chasing a bigger dose rarely helps; finding your own gentle, steady amount tends to serve people better.

How our people use CBD for everyday calm
More and more folks are finding that CBD is not just for one kind of person or one kind of trouble. Our people reach for it across all walks of life, young and old, and some use it for their anxious pets too. We always encourage a gentle, experimental, whole-person approach. Here is the rhythm many of our customers settle into.
| Form | How folks tend to use it |
|---|---|
| Drops or gelcaps (ingested) | A daily amount, started low and adjusted gently to what suits you |
| A little topical salve | A small amount behind the ears or on the neck, morning and night or as needed |
| A warm cup of CBD tea | A calming ritual when a wave of worry is rolling in |
Our gelcaps are made from pure plant oil and carry more of the plant’s natural compounds, while our drops use a coconut-oil base infused with CBD from medicinal hemp. A gentle starting place is one gelcap or about half a dropperful of the drops, then adjust up or down over a few days depending on how it sits with you. Everyone is different, so go slowly and pay attention to your own body. And if a product does not agree with you, simply take less or stop. Be sensible, be patient, and reach out to us with questions any time.

Which Sisters product suits your day?
People often ask us to choose for them, but the better question is what your days look like. Here is how we help folks find their own starting point.
| If your day looks like | You might start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A steady baseline of daily tension | CBD oil | Easy to take daily and adjust drop by drop |
| You want a small ritual in tense moments | CBD tea | The warm cup itself is part of the calming |
| You want everything gathered in one place | Mental wellness collection | Our calm-focused products curated together |
“We will never promise you that a bottle can carry your worry for you. What we can offer is a handmade, honest plant ally to set beside rest, movement, good food, and quiet. These are anxious times for a lot of people, and we believe in sharing what helps, gently and without overselling.” With love, the Sisters of the Valley
About the Sisters of the Valley
We are a women-led sisterhood based in Merced, California, making plant-based CBD and natural-wellness products by hand. We grow our own plants, create our own formulations, and make everything in small, fresh batches timed to the cycles of the moon, in a spiritual environment, with prayers for the people sewn into every bottle and jar. We third-party lab test every batch for potency and purity, and we ship free across the country where the law allows. We are not a big-box brand and we are not a dispensary, we are a small circle of women who believe plant medicine should be made with care and sold with honesty. That honesty is exactly why you will never hear us promise a cure. You can read more about who we are on our story page, and if you want a related read, our people put together a practical guide to the best CBD for energy and mood.
What to look for when buying CBD
Wherever you buy your CBD, for anxiety or anything else, a little care up front protects you. The CBD market grew fast, and not every maker holds themselves to the same standard. Here are the things we would check, no matter whose product you are considering, including ours.
| Look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Published third-party lab results | Confirms how much CBD is really there and screens for pesticides, heavy metals, and solvents |
| Clear ingredients and sourcing | You should be able to see what is in the bottle and where the hemp came from |
| Honest, measured claims | Be wary of anyone promising a cure; the honest answer is that research is still growing |
| A maker who answers questions | Real people behind the product, willing to talk you through it, is a good sign |
This is the standard we hold ourselves to. We grow with care, we make in small batches, and we publish our results so you never have to take our word for what is in a bottle. If a maker will not show you their testing or hides behind big promises, that tells you something worth knowing.
Frequently asked questions
Does CBD cure anxiety?
No, and we will always be straight about that. CBD is not a cure for anxiety or any anxiety disorder. Early research is encouraging and many people say it helps them feel calmer, but the science is still limited. We see it as one supportive piece of a whole-person approach, not a treatment.
Can I use CBD instead of my prescribed medication?
Please do not stop or replace a prescribed medication on your own. If you take an SSRI or any other medicine for anxiety or depression, keep working with the doctor who prescribed it, and only add CBD after you have talked it through with them. CBD is a companion to good care, never a substitute for it.
How much should I take?
Start gently. Many of our people begin with one gelcap or about half a dropperful of the drops, then adjust up or down over a few days based on how it suits them. Everyone is different, so go slowly and pay attention to your own body rather than chasing a number.
Will CBD make me feel high or foggy?
Our CBD products are non-intoxicating and will not get you high. Most folks describe a gentle settling rather than any heaviness. As with anything new, notice how it affects you before doing anything that needs your full attention.
Can I use CBD for my anxious pet?
Many of our people do use CBD with their pets, and we make a fragrance-free pet oil for exactly that. Start with a microdose, watch how your animal responds, and keep seeing your veterinarian. Pets cannot tell us how they feel, so go especially gently.
How do I know your products are what they say?
We third-party lab test every batch for potency and purity and publish the results openly. You can read them on our lab test results page before you ever buy.
A gentle next step
If you would like to try a handmade, lab-tested plant ally as one part of a calmer routine, our mental wellness and stress collection gathers our calm-focused products in one place. Take a look, read the lab results, and reach out to our sisterhood with any questions. We are glad to help you find a gentle starting point, and gladder still if it sits beside the rest, movement, and care that matter most.

Can you take this oil with taking Prozac.
I think if you have strong pharmaceuticals in your system, they will override anything the cannabis plant can do for you. I don’t think it’s a good mix, but you should ask your doctor. I don’t think it will hurt you, I just don’t think you will notice anything with the Prozac in your system. Talk to your doctor, though, because we aren’t doctors or scientists.
