Quick answer
CBD soap is a handmade cleansing bar infused with hemp-derived CBD that many of our people enjoy as a gentle daily wash for the skin. It will not get you high, it can be used more than once a day without drying you out, and we make four varieties in our enclave: coffee, aloe vera, arnica, and lemongrass. We make no medical claims for it. Below we share, honestly, what folks tell us they like about CBD soap, how they use it, and what is in each bar.
If you have followed us since the beginning, you know it is only recently that we started talking openly about dosage and the qualities of CBD at all, since making medical claims is the number one thing that can get a maker in our line of work shut down, and the number one reason the post office can deny service. We have always been careful here. For a long time we sidestepped the subject entirely, telling folks it is all very old but very new, and very safe, so experiment gently and tell us what you use it for. CBD has gone mainstream now, so we are a little less shy about sharing what we know, while still being plain that none of this is medical advice.
We have shared before how we started making CBD salves to help with everyday aches, in our post on CBD salve for pain. It bothered us that people with chronic discomfort who did not smoke felt they had to in order to find any relief, and it worried us how easily a lit joint could be left lying around. That is why we began making tinctures, and then salves, so people could simply rub something onto the skin. Soap was a natural next step.
The Sisters have made and used CBD soap for a long while. We had it in the store, then ran out during the second summer of the pandemic, around the time our lead soapmaker, Sister Kass, bought her own home near the abbey for herself and her small children. That home needed plenty of work, so for a stretch our soaps were on pause. Things have settled now, Sister Kass is back to making soaps and sprays in her own kitchen, and we are happy to say they are back on the shelves.
CBD soap is a lovely way to care for your skin without the oil of a salve. Many of our people use it more than once a day and find it does not dry them out the way harsh bars can. So what is it really good for, and what should you not expect from it? Here is our honest take on the CBD soap benefits folks mention to us.
It does not get you high
Plenty of people still carry misaligned beliefs about CBD and hemp, and some are genuinely worried about getting high just from washing with a CBD bar. That will not happen, and the reason is simple. The hemp we use is bred to contain only a trace of THC. You do not want all the THC stripped out, since the whole-plant blend is part of the point, but any plant testing under the legal threshold is considered hemp, far too little to produce any intoxicating effect or to read the way marijuana would.
We will be straight about the legal picture, because it is shifting. The federal definition of hemp has historically rested on a 0.3 percent THC limit, and recent federal changes have moved toward a stricter total-THC standard that is still being implemented. The rules around hemp-derived products are genuinely in flux right now, so for the current status in your situation, check a current authority. You can read the federal government’s own positions at the FDA and on the hemp program at the USDA. Our own products are hemp-derived and lab tested, and we keep them compliant with the standards that apply to us. (Our exact THC test figure is a brand claim we flag for your own verification.)
Why people reach for CBD soap
We started working with CBD in the first place because of the qualities people kept telling us about, the kind of everyday comfort folks dealing with stiff joints and sore spots said they were looking for. We want to be careful here and frame this the honest way: we are not claiming CBD soap treats, cures, or prevents anything. What we can share is what our people tell us they appreciate, and what current research is and is not able to say.
On that research, a recent review of CBD in cosmetic dermatology notes that early evidence points to antioxidant, moisturizing, and soothing properties, while stressing that only a few clinical studies exist so far and more are needed. That is exactly the spirit we want to keep: promising, plant-based, and honest about the limits.
| What people tell us they like | The honest framing |
|---|---|
| A gentle daily wash | Lighter than a salve, so many use it more than once a day without feeling dried out |
| A soothing routine | Our people find the wash calming; research on CBD and the skin is still early |
| A way to add CBD to a habit | Easy to fold into a wash you already do, rather than remembering a separate step |
| Gentle on tender areas | Lathered on a cloth, it is a soft option when a rubbed-in salve feels like too much |

Folding soap into a daily routine
People sometimes forget to put their topical salve on in the morning. For those folks, a CBD soap is a nice way to bring a little CBD into the day during a cleansing ritual they would do anyway. It is gentle enough to lather on a loofah and use over the body, and many of our people like a thin pass over the face since the lather is lighter than the coconut-oil base of a salve, which can feel heavy on facial skin. Use it the way that feels good to you.
One honest reminder we always make: this is not a replacement for any medication or product you are already using. Please do not stop those, especially without talking to your doctor first. CBD soap is a pleasant addition to a routine, not a holy grail, and we would never want you to treat it as one.
A calmer wind-down
Rest matters, and the world is full of stress. We hear from more people than ever who are carrying heavy loads, whether from the lingering effects of the pandemic years or just day-to-day life. We will not overstate what a bar of soap can do, but many of our people simply enjoy drawing a warm bath before bed and using a CBD soap as part of settling the mind and body toward rest.
If sleep is your aim, the most reliable helpers are the ordinary ones: a steady daily rhythm, healthy eating, and protecting your wind-down time so your body’s natural clock can do its work. A calming bath can be a lovely part of that ritual, a small signal to your body that the day is winding down and it is safe to rest. Pair it with whatever else grounds you, a little meditation, some quiet music, a warm room and a clear mind, and give it time, since these gentle habits tend to work best when they become routine rather than a one-off. And again, please keep talking with your doctor, and do not swap any current treatment for a bar of soap. We make our products to sit alongside your care, not to replace it.
The four soaps we make
We make four varieties of CBD-infused soap, and you can try all of them in the soap bundle. Every bar carries roughly 4 mg of CBD. Each one is made by the loving hands of Sister Kassidy, prepared in a spiritual environment, following the moon cycles, with prayers for the people sewn into every product.

CBD-infused coffee soap
Our handmade coffee soap is made with coffee grounds and infused with hemp-based CBD. It contains: coffee grounds (a natural exfoliant), CBD-infused oil, witch hazel, coconut oil, kosher vegetable oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sorbitol, propylene glycol, sorbitan oleate, oat protein, and titanium dioxide (a mineral whitener used in opaque soaps). Thanks to our proximity to Los Angeles and the attention we have gotten over the years, we are told more than one well-known face washes with this one. Just saying.
CBD-infused aloe vera soap
Aloe vera is a plant people have turned to for a very long time in skincare. Our handmade aloe vera soap is made with aloe vera gel, our special blend of essential oils, and hemp-based CBD oil. It contains: CBD-infused oil, witch hazel, coconut oil, palm oil, safflower oil, kosher vegetable glycerin, aloe vera gel, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sorbitol, propylene glycol, sorbitan oleate, and oat protein.
CBD-infused arnica soap
Arnica is a flowering plant with a long history in traditional preparations. Our handmade arnica soap is made with the natural arnica plant, coconut oil, witch hazel, and hemp-based CBD. It contains: about 5 mg of CBD, arnica flower, liquid coconut oil (carrying the CBD), witch hazel, kosher vegetable glycerine, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sorbitol, propylene glycol, sorbitan oleate, oat protein, and titanium dioxide.

CBD-infused lemongrass soap
Lemongrass has long been a favorite in soapmaking for its bright scent and toning feel. Our handmade lemongrass soap is made with lemongrass flower, essential oils, and hemp-based CBD. It contains: lemongrass flower, organic lemongrass essential oil, CBD-infused coconut oil, witch hazel, coconut oil, kosher vegetable oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sorbitol, propylene glycol, sorbitan oleate, oat protein, and titanium dioxide.
“Every bar is made by hand, by the moon cycles, with a prayer sewn into it. We will never tell you a bar of soap is a cure. We will tell you it is made with love, and tested so you know exactly what is in it.”

What to look for in a good CBD soap
Not every bar with CBD stamped on the label is made with the same care, so a little know-how helps. First, check that it is real CBD and not just hemp seed oil, which is a fine skin ingredient but not the same thing as cannabidiol. If the label says hemp but never CBD, you are likely looking at a seed-oil bar. Second, look for a stated CBD amount so you know what you are getting, the way ours tell you the milligrams per bar. Third, favor simple, plant-based ingredients over synthetic dyes and heavy artificial fragrance. And fourth, the big one in a lightly regulated space, look for third-party lab testing, since an outside lab confirming what is in the bar, and what is not, is the closest thing to a reality check a shopper has.
| What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Real CBD, not just hemp seed oil | They are different ingredients; the label should clearly say CBD |
| A stated CBD amount | So you know what you are buying, like our roughly 4 mg per bar |
| Simple, plant-based ingredients | Fewer synthetic dyes and fragrances to bother sensitive skin |
| Third-party lab testing | An outside lab confirms the contents in a lightly regulated market |
This is the standard we hold ourselves to. Our bars are made by hand in small batches, infused with our own hemp-derived CBD oil, and lab tested so you can see what is inside. We would rather earn your trust with honesty than with big promises, which is the whole reason we are careful about how we talk about any of this.
How to choose your bar
| Bar | Built around | Who tends to reach for it |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee | Real coffee grounds | Folks who want a scrubby, exfoliating, wake-up bar |
| Aloe vera | Aloe vera gel | Anyone wanting the softest, most soothing option |
| Arnica | Arnica flower, witch hazel | People who like a gentle, earthy daily bar |
| Lemongrass | Lemongrass flower and essential oil | Those who love a bright scent and a clean, toned feel |
Cannot decide? The four-bar bundle lets you try each and find your favorite, all gathered in one place in our soap collection.
Frequently asked questions
Will CBD soap get me high?
No. Our soap is made with hemp-derived CBD that carries only a trace of THC, far too little to cause any intoxicating effect, especially in a wash that rinses off. You can read more about whether CBD shows on a drug test.
How often can I use CBD soap?
Many of our people use it more than once a day and find it gentle enough not to dry the skin. Use it the way you would any good bar of soap, and let your skin guide you.
Can I use CBD soap on my face?
Many people do, since the lather is lighter than the coconut-oil base of a salve, which can feel heavy on facial skin. If your skin is sensitive, start gently and see how it feels.
How much CBD is in each bar?
Each bar carries roughly 4 mg of CBD, with the arnica bar at about 5 mg. Soap is a light, everyday way to bring a little CBD into your routine rather than a high-dose product.
Is CBD soap a replacement for my medication or skincare?
No, and we want to be clear about that. CBD soap is a pleasant addition to a routine, not a substitute for any treatment. Please keep using what your doctor has recommended and talk with them before changing anything.
Which Sisters of the Valley soap should I choose?
It comes down to scent and feel: coffee for exfoliation, aloe vera for the softest wash, arnica for a gentle earthy bar, and lemongrass for a bright, toning feel. The bundle lets you try all four.
